History
The fertile land of Ancient Tenea, the plain and the surrounding hills, has been known since the Mycenaean period. The agricultural products of the area were fine and were part of the diet of the inhabitants of neighboring cities.
The need for intensive cultivation of the Tenea land must have been the reason that, according to Pausanias, it was inhabited by Trojan prisoners, who were forcibly transferred from Tenedos and with the permission of Agamemnon, settled in Ancient Tenea. That is why there is a nomenclature.
In the area of Ancient Tenea, Oedipus spent his childhood, whose adoptive father was Polyvos, tyrant of Corinth.
The prosperity of Tenea opened long horizons when, in 734-733 BC, many Teneats, led by a Corinthian leader, colonized Syracuse, Italy. For the products of the land of Tenea, a sea trade route was opened, which contributed to the prosperity of the wider area. The trade connection and the good relationship between Tenea and Syrrakousa, was the reason why Tenea remained intact and prosperous when in 146 BC, the Roman Legions under Lucius Mummius destroyed Corinth.
During the recent excavations of the Ministry of Culture, in Chiliomodi, Corinth, the ancient city was located. Remarkable finds include many burials, with a wealth and variety of gifts. This fact confirms the timeless prosperity of the city and its inhabitants.
The land of Ancient Tenea still produces agricultural products of high nutritional value, which are famous for their excellent quality, with the EXCELLENT VIRGIN OLIVE OIL being the primary one.
